Chanaka Welegedera made sure that his captain gets a brilliant start as he dismissed "ICC Cricketer of the Past Year" Gautam Gambhir bowled to a Yorker. Virat Kohli came in at # 3 & watched sehwag play some brilliant strokes as veeru scored blistering 47 off just 31 deliveries with 9 boundaries. Sehwag took over the attack as he scored three boundaries of Suranga Lakmal Delivery. Virender Sehwag was lucky enough to be caught behind the stumps in a welegedara delivery which was No Ball, Next ball was a square drive for a boundary, BUT, what a comeback Welegedera did as he dismissed Kohli just for 9 caught behind to Keeper Sangakkara. Sehwag was soon to follow him as he attempted a "too early" shot giving catch to Lahiru Thirumanne. Walagedera had given one of the most awesome start to the captain by taking 3 wickets with completion of 9 overs & India were 71-3.
Indian middle order consisting of Yuvraj SIngh & Captain M S Dhoni played some recovery knock as they both scored 99 run partnership for the fourth wicket. Dhoni was very carefull in his innings of 37 which came through 70 deliveries with just 3 boundaries, before he was dissmissed by perera delivery edging the ball to Sangakkara. It was the returning man Yuvraj Singh who contributed 74 runs of 84 deliveries in India's decent total. Yuvraj soon followed dhoni as perera claimed his second wicket. Lower middle order consisting Suresh Raina & Ravindra Jadeja showed some spirit as they both scored 30+ Runs which Contributed in India's decent total of 279 with the loss of 9 wickets which included 22 Extras!.
Welegedera was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed his 5 wicket haul giving 66 runs in alotted10 overs.
Srilanka had a decent start without their regular & inform batsman Dilshan not playing, Openers Tharanga & Thirimanne got off to a decent start of 48 runs partnership for the first wicket when Thirimanne gave catch to gautam gambhir in a sreesanth delivery.Harbhajan claimed catch in his own delivery when Tharanga was on 30.
With both openers dismissed Captain Kumara Sangakkara & Thilan Samaraveera scored a 100+ run partnership which took India in the losing state. Kumara Sangakkara scored 60 of 80 deliveries before he was dismissed by harbhajan, Srilanka were 199-3 with just 81 runs required & 7 wickets in hand!.
It was very had at the end for Indian bowlers as the dew came into picture & bowlers weren't able to grip the ball. Only Harbhajan got some success as Srilanka eazed to victory with the help of Heroic knock by Thilan Samaraveera 105* off 106 deliveries & at the End it was quick fire by perera scoring a lightning 36 Run knock with just 15 balls played with an innings of six boundaries & a sixer. Srilanka reached the target with 2 overs to spare. & Indians giving away the match at the end by throwing no balls with extra deliveries & runs!.
