Bangladesh got their World Cup campaign off the mark with a hard-fought 28-run victory after Ireland had earlier threatened an upset in Dhaka. Defending their total of 205 all out Bangladesh were able to limited Ireland to 178 all out in 45 overs, with Shafiul Islam taking the best World Cup figures by a Bangladeshi bowler.An excellent bowling performance from George Dockrell helped Ireland to bowl Bangladesh out for just 205.
Tamim Iqbal (44) was the top scorere from the Bangladesh team. Apart from tamim, Mushfiqur Rahim and Raqibul Hasan scored 36 and 38. The first wicket fell down when Imrul Kayes was stumped NJ O'Brien in the third ball of the sixth over bowled by Mooney who took an wicket with an economy rate of 3.57
Andre Botha took three wickets with an economy rate of 3.55, While Dockrell and Johnston took two wickets each with an economy rate of 2.30 and 4.80
Bangladesh started off with the spinners and it paid rich dividends as they sent back the openers cheaply. None of the Irish batsmen got going and the Bangladeshi spinners continued to pile on the pressure. Kevin O Brien and Andre Botha strung together a good partnership, but Naeem Islam and Shafiul Islam broke the partnership and ran through the tail to complete a thrilling 27 run victory for the Tigers.
With the pressure intense in spite of the small target, Ireland's captain, Will Porterfield, set himself to make the most of every scoring opportunity. He had launched the innings in confident style with a second-ball drive off Shafiul through point, and he added a second four when Naeem dropped short at the end of his third over. But Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh's captain and senior spinner, struck with his first delivery, as Porterfield attempted a flick off the back foot, and instead popped a simple catch to Raqibul Hasan at short midwicket.

Shafiul Islam took four wickets with an economy rate of 2.62, while Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Ashraful took two wickets each.
“It was a very good game. We did not bat well, but the bowlers and the fielders showed a lot of characters. I don't have any words for them. Everybody was saying that we would win by 20 runs and I had faith in them. The ball was not doing much but they were confident. Shafiul was expensive but we knew that he could come back well. He was swinging the ball nicely. We are looking forward to the tournament and the support is awesome.” Said shakib.
” I am very happy with the effort. We aim to get to the quarter-finals, but we have to play better than this. The mistakes that we made today will not be repeated. I played well but my aim is to score a big hundred.” Said tamim
