Eventually bowled out for 112, the African minnows at one stage looked as though they’d make a contest of it. But that was all over bar the shouting when skipper Afridi introduced his leg-spinners into the attack.
Collins Obuya’s (47) was the top scorer from the kenya team.
Half-centuries from Younis Khan(50), Kamran Akmal(65), Umar Akmal(71) and Misbah-ul-Haq boosted Pakistan to a formidable 317 for seven.
Misbah-ul-Haq(65) opened his World Cup account with a massive six off Tikolo. Akmal and Khan found the outfield too slow to score boundaries but paced their 98-run stand off 110 balls well with some quick running between the wickets.
Pakistan will next play against Sri Lanka at Colombo on Saturday, while Kenya takes on the tournament co-host in the same city on March 1.
"I was practicing hard, glad that it has paid off. I thank Allah for a good day. I didn't take any pressure, I considered this to be a normal game. We are training hard and I'm enjoying my fielding" Akmal said.
"We had to be more positive in our batting. The conditions were hard but the batsmen should take chances early on and disturb the rhythm of the bowlers. It was a good start, the next game is very important, we will come harder. Shoaib bowled well, I am more of a bowler and then a batsman"Afridi said
"We gave a lot of extras, the guys were trying something extra. Soon after wickets fell, we gave it away by bowling wides and no-balls. Our bowling wasn't good, we looked like four bowlers down. It was good to play Pakistan after a long time, we would want to learn from the mistakes and perform well. The only area of concern in our bowling was the number of extras, we would like to play positive cricket when we take the field the next time around"Kamande said.
