Kenya's first showing at this tournament demonstrated both their lack of competency against good, but hardly exceptional, seam bowling and their incomprehension of the review system - borderline decisions were accepted without question and clear cut ones questioned out of sheer desperation.
The three Kenyan batsmen - Waters, Collins Obuya (14) and Rakep Patel (15 not out) - managed double digit scores.
Martin Guptill (39) and Brendon McCullum (26) stroked some easy boundaries before completing the chase of 70 runs.
"We didn't start well as we lost the toss, but our seamers exploited the conditions well. With big games coming up, nice to get a win under your belt. Mills might be back in the next game and Nathan has bowled well for us." Vettori said.
"I am disappointed with our batting performance. All credit to the NZ bowlers and they came hard against us. We didn't compete well today and we hope to do well in the future matches." Kamande said.
Bennett after being selected as the Man of the Match said " It's very tough for us after the India game, I was working on the yorkers and it paid rich dividends today. It's very hot in India and it's pretty difficult to get used to it".
