Delhi : In the match between the minnows, Canada bowlers dominated the match by sending back the Kenya team batsman back to the pavilion in the early overs of the Kenyan Innings. Kenyan got off to a worse possible start when Henry Osinde got rid of openers and then picked up David Obuya in quick succession. Kenya managed to set up an target of 199 runs by losing all their wickets.
Kenya lost their opening batsman in the early overs itself as Ouma, Waters ans DO Obuya were dismissed by Osinde. CO Obuya was bowled by Baidwan in the 12th over when the score was 41 for 4. A patnership of 52runs for the 6th wicket between JK Kamande and T Mishra helped the kenya team who were in trouble by losing up early wickets.
Mishra(51) ans Odoyo( 51 ) were the top scorers of the Kenya team. The skipper Kamande scored 22runs out of 58 balls.
Osinde was the top wicket taker from the Canada team who took four wickets of the Kenya team with an economy rate of 2.60, While Baidwan and Cheema took two wickets. Balaji Rao, Davison took a wicket each.
Even though Canada lost three early wickets half centuries from the skipper Bagai and Hansra led the Canada team to defeat the Kenya team. Hansra scored (70 of 99 balls) and the skipper Bagai scored (64 of 97 balls) and remained not-out.
Odhiambo took two wickets of the Canada team, While Ngoche and Otieno took an wicket each.
"Osinde did a fantastic job. We knew the ball would swing in the first few overs and he exploited the conditions well. Jimmy played very well and I supported him well. We were fortunate that there was no run-rate pressure. It was not a easy wicket to bat on but we rotated the strike easily and Hansra struck some boundaries.We had a good couple of games against Kenya. If we continue with our good performance, we can give teams like NZ and Zimbabwe a tough test."Bagai said.
"We started off very badly but we recovered well in the middle. The wicket became a bit difficult as the day progressed. 200 plus could have been defended on this wicket. Osinde bowled brilliantly with the new ball and he put us on the back foot. Mishra got out at a wrong time. When defending a low score, we have to get a wicket early on. We have to work hard and improve our performance for the next game against Australia. We scored 198 today and it would be wonderful if we got past this score against Australia." Kamande said.
"It was good to get my first ODI fifty in front of my family who had come all the way from Punjab, I wanted to make them pay for the dropped chance, we did not want to put pressure on ourselves, Bagai was outstanding as well. Our bowlers have been outstanding right through the tournament and it was imperative that the batsmen put their hands up. We will take this confidence ahead of our next match against New Zealand."Hansra said.
