Chennai : Ashwin and Rampaul were heroes for their teams and did their job to perfection. Yuvraj Singh continues to have a fantastic World Cup and has been the most consistent performer (3 fifties, 1 ton and nine wickets so far) for India and the heartening part was the way he came back to bowl after having struggled physically when he was batting. India go on to face Australia at Motera and West Indies will go one to face Pakistan at Mirpur. Both teams will be looking to put up a much improved performance in the knockout stage.
Earlier India lost both the openers Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambir in the first ten overs of the match. Sachin was dismissed by Rampaul in the first over of the match, while Gambir was also dismissed by Rampaul in the nineth over. Team India was under pressure after losing both the openers.
The partnership of 122 runs for the third wicket between Kohli and Yuvraj helped the team India which was under pressure. Kohli scored (59 runs out of 76 balls) while Yuvraj smashed a century. Yuvraj was the top scorer from the Indian team by scoring (113 runs out of 123 balls) which consisted of ten boundaries and two sixers.
Rampaul was the key bowler for the West Indies team, Rampaul took five wickets of the Indian team. Russell took two wickets, while Sammy, Bishoo and Pollard took a wicket each.
West Indies batted pretty well in the early overs after which the middle order collapsed. Opener Edwards was dismissed by Ashwin in the seventh over. Bravo was dismissed by Raina when the score was 91 for the loss of two wickets after 17th over. The third wicket partnership of 63 runs between Smith and Sarwan helped the team which was under pressure. But after the dismissal of Smith and Pollard team India took complete control over the match. Smith(81 runs out of 97 balls) was the top scorer from the West Indies team. Sarwan played well by scoring (39 runs out of 68 balls). The middle order batsman followed the way to the pavillion one after the other.
Zaheer was the top wicket taker by taking three wickets. Ashwin and Yuvraj took two wickets each, while Harbhajan and Raina picked up a wicket each.
