Ahmedabad : Guptill and Brendon McCullum never looked like getting out and the Zimbabwe bowlers struggled. Price, Utseya and Cremer kept it tight but they did not get the wickets. NZ have been clinical in their performance and they carry a lot of confidence ahead of their next match against Pakistan at Pallekele.
Taylor scored (44 out of 57 balls), with four boundaries in it. He was the top scorer from the Zimbabwe team. Utseya scored (36 out of 65 balls) and Cremer scored (22 out of 43 balls). No other batsman batted well. Zimababwe batsman struggeled to face the New Zealand bowlers.
Southee took three wicekts with an economy rate of 3.10 and was the top wicket taker from the New Zealand team, Mills and Vettori took two wickets each with an economy rate of 2.90 and 2.50
The New Zealand openers played brilliantly and finished the game with 99 balls remaining. Guptill smashed 86 runs of 108 balls which consisted of seven boundaries and two sixers in it. McCullum scored 76 runs from 95 balls with six boundaries and two sixers.
None of the Zimbabwe bowlers were able to take the a wicket of the New Zealand team. Lamb, Utseya, and Price bowled well with an economy rate of 3.60, 3.83 and 3.28
"The bowlers were superb. Brendon and I adopted a cautious approach and it paid dividends. I will look to carry on with the good form as the tournament progresses."Guptill said.
"This is the performance that we were looking for. This will give us a lot of confidence when we face the big teams. We talked long and hard about our batting and we focused on the fact that the wicket has lots of runs. We really wanted this kind of a performance so we don't mind if the middle order does not bat." Vettori said.
"It was a very disapponting game for us. We did not play well right from the first ball. We lost quick wickets and we have to work this out for the next match. Maybe the occasion got to the guys."Chigumbura said.
