HIGHLIGHTS : Pakistan vs West Indies 1st Quarter Finals
Mirpur : The decision to bat first after winning the toss by Sammy didn't help the West Indies team to set up a huge target. The dismissal of both the openers in the early overs took away the match from the West Indies team. Pakistan did a great job with the ball. Afridi was the key bowler for the Pakistan team who took four wickets. Afridi is also the leading wicket taker in the tournament. The target of 112 runs by the West Indies team was achieved by Pakistan in just 21 overs with out the loss of any wicket.
Earlier West Indies lost early wickets as both the openers Gayle and Smith were dismissed by Gul and Hafeez in the early overs. West Indies batsman couldn't sustain the Pakistan bowling attack.The score was 16 for the loss of three wickets after the sixth over of the match. The West Indies batsman followed the way to the pavillion one after the other. Chanderpaul, Sarwan and Roach were the only batsman who managed to score a double number. Chanderpaul was the top scorer from the West Indies team he scored (44 runs out of 103 balls), while Sarwan scored (24 runs out of 68 balls).
Afridi was the top wicket taker from the Pakistan team. Afridi took four wickets who is the leading wicket taker in the tournament. Hafeez and Ajmal took two wickets each, While Gul and Razzaq picked up a wicket each.
Pakistan openers finished the game in 20.5 overs itself. Hafeez scored (61 runs out of 64 balls)which consisted of ten boundaries in it, while Akmal scored (47 runs out of 61 balls )
None of the West Indies bowler managed to pick up a wicket. Sammy was pretty good with the ball with an economy rate of 3.60 out of five overs he bowled.
This massive 10 wicket win would give the Pakistan team an added confidence as they go to Mohali to face the winner of the game between India and Australia that's scheduled tomorrow.
