Colombo : A disciplined bowling attack from the Sri Lanka bowlers helped the team in order to register their place in the finals of the world cup 2011 which is going to be held in Mumbai. The Kiwis batsman failed to set up a huge target and were all-out after scoring 217 runs. The partnership of 120runs for the second wicket between Dilshan and the skipper Sangakkara won the match for the Sri Lanka team by five wickets with 13 balls remaining.
Even though New Zealand team won the toss and elected to bat first they were unable to set a huge target for the Sri Lanka team. New Zealand team lost their early wickets as the openers were dismissed without contributing much for the team. Guptill after scoring (39 runs out of 65balls ) was bowled by Malinga while Brendon McCullum(13 runs out of 21 balls) was bowled by Herath. Even the middle order batsman failed to bat well which led the team into pressure.The 77 runs partnership for the fourth wicket between Styris and Taylor helped the team which was under pressure. Styris was the top scorer from the Kiwis team who scored (57 runs out of 77 balls), while Taylor scored (36 runs out of 55 balls).
