India did the remarkable history after they beat Sri Lanka by 6 Wickets in the Finals at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. After successfully chasing down a target of 275.
First three World Cups (1975, 1979, 1983) were hosted by Cricket founders England, while West Indies won the first two, India won the third one!.
1987 World cup was co-hosted by India and Pakistan which was bagged by Australia.
1992 World cup was co-held by Australia and New Zealand where in Cup was grabbed by Pakistan.
1996 World cup was co-held by India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Even though Sri Lanka managed to pull it off.. The finals was in Lahore, Pakistan.
1999 co-held by England and Ireland was won by Australia.
Australia managed to repeat this result for the next two World cups Held in South Africa in 2003 and West Indies in 2007.
But, India along with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka were the co-hosts of 2011 World Cup and India has successfully broken the jinx and are the ONLY Hosts to win Cricket World cup at HOME.
