"Anil Kumble" The man known for his Determination, Never say Die Spirit.
Some said he was not genuine Spinner of the Ball, some said he cannot continue long in the International Cricket.
He proved them all WRONG & became the World's 3rd HIghest Wicket Taker om test croclet. he has taken 619 Test wickets and 337 ODI wickets. Second highest Wicket taker among Leg Spinners after Shane Warne.
He is the only one of the two bowlers to take ALL test wickets in an innings after JIM LAKER.
He has got so many awards & honour including the padmashree from indian government & A Major Circle Named After him in his hometown Bangalore, the city where the legend was born to Krishna Swami & Saroja. He has a brother Dinesh Kumble who was his Cricekting Guru. He is married to Chethana Ramatheertha. & 3 children - daughter Aaruni, son Mayas and the youngest Daughter Svasti . He studied in National College Basavanagudy & completed his Engineering in RV College Bangalore which is known to be one of the top Engineering Colleges in India & passed the Engineering in distinction. He began his cricketing from his childhoold just like all kids in india he played the "gullycricket". He is nicknamed as JUMBO for his special JUMBO JET Deliveries & also because his feet are quite big or Jumbo as observed by his team-mates.
He is a right arm unorthodox leg spinner & was a knight mare for the opposition batsman by his variation of line & length. He was famous for his google's, Leg Break's & Flipper. Unless the modern technologies such as replay, highlights, slow motion etc it was very hard to give an answer to kumble's deliveries by the opposition team, so, they all did their homework! before they could understand kumble's style. But Still Kumble Bagged so many wickets ! & that's called CLASS.
He began his first class carrer for Karnataka in 1989 & there was no look back. He was then selected for international under 19, & soon after in 1990 he made his International Debut. His first 50 test wickets came in just 10 matches which proves that without proper study of cricket through technology it was so damn hard to give an answer to his deliveries. His best 6 wickets for just 12 Runs in an indian is the best bowling figures by an Indian. 1996 World Cup he was the leading wicket taker bagging 61 wickets.
1999, Location Delhi @ the Feroz Shah Kotla Pakistan was in a safe postion scoring 100 Runs unbeaten for the opening partnership, they aimed for Big Score. But then, Anil Got the ball!! It was almost a miracle!, Pakistan's all the 10 wickets were bagged by AK & i still remember after AK taking 9th wicket, his State & International team mate Javagal Srinath bowling the ball wide to batsman so as to take any wicket!, pakistan collapsed without not even scoring a double ton!.
Kumble has his hands in almost all of the test vicotries for India & has single handedly won many test matches for India. He was also very good batsman in his first class carrer & he is the ONLY player to score 2000 runs and take over 500 Test wickets. He has many world records including the record for most wickets by leg before wicket, only player to take more than 500 test wickets & to score a century etc. In 2007 England series he scored his century & guess what? No other batsman score century in this series. He is one of the 4 bowlers, alongside Richard Hadlee Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan, and the only Indian bowler ever, to have taken 5 wickets in a Test innings 30+ times & also holds the world record for the most no of caught-and-bowled dismissals in tests, 35!!.
There was a incident that no one could forget which showed kumble's determination!. He broke his jaw during a match against West Indies from a bouncer!. He should've been hospitalisedm, but still despite his team members & captain requesting to take rest he came back :-o bowled for more than 41 overs & also was successfull in taking the wicket of one of the greatest batsman Brian Lara. He had a cool attitude. No matter if his ball was hit for a six, next ball he would come strong at you with the same spirit & determination! He bowled in very long spells & thr were so many years were Kumble's bowling was the reason for test victories.
He took over as captain for India from his state teammate Rahul Dravid(Known as The Wall) in September 2007 & led Indian side for many successfull victories. But he had to pullout of the captancy as he retired from test cricket due to an injury. As a captain he was very storng & asusual led his team with the same spirt. There was an incident where the australians had to win the Sydney test so thr were many decissions going incorrectly against india. Symonds not walking back even after he edged. Clarke claiming a catch which was grounded & many. that time the statement he made post match was one of the greatest in the history of cricket. That was "I Think only one team played in the spirit of the game" & everyone knows which team that was. Media & australian citizens protest agaist there own home team!.
After his retirement kumble was called to join his home team in the innagural edition of the IPL & later was called to captain the team in the second edition. He led the Bangalore Royal Challenger's to almost victory in the series, but they placed 2. A team which was 2nd last in the inagural edition was ranked 2nd from first! & kumble not only contributed in his captancy but also in his bowling by becoming one of the highest wicket takers in the series & is currently captaining the side.
